NMT Plain Bearings Low-Friction Wear-Resistant Maintenance-Free Plain Bearings
In the world of rotating machinery, rolling bearings dominate most applications with their low friction and high precision advantages. However, in operating conditions involving heavy loads at low speeds, reciprocating oscillation, frequent impact, confined installation space, or where frequent maintenance is impractical, plain bearings offer unique value that rolling bearings cannot replace. From excavator pivot pins to marine rudder bearings, from turbine guide bearings to metallurgical mill bearing bushes, from food machinery bushings to injection molding machine platen guide bushes, plain bearings perform high-capacity, impact-resistant, long-life support tasks across every corner of industry.
The operating principle of plain bearings is fundamentally different from rolling bearings——they do not rely on rolling elements to transmit loads, but rather on sliding contact between the journal and bearing liner layer to carry loads. This surface-contact load-carrying method gives plain bearings extremely high load capacity and impact toughness, and they do not suffer from fretting wear or cage fracture commonly seen in rolling bearings under low-speed oscillation and frequent start-stop conditions. With self-lubricating liner technology, modern plain bearings can also achieve long-term maintenance-free operation without external oil supply.
Japan NMT plain bearings are precision product series developed specifically for various heavy-load low-speed, oscillating impact and maintenance-free applications. NMT plain bearings feature systematic specialized optimization in metal substrate strength, self-lubricating liner performance, dimensional accuracy and wear life——ensuring stable and reliable support and transmission under various demanding conditions.
NMT plain bearings precisely address the core positions of various equipment. Self-lubricating composite plain bearings utilize a high-strength steel back with PTFE fiber fabric liner composite structure, achieving extremely low friction coefficient and long life without external lubrication, suitable for maintenance-free applications such as automotive suspension, construction machinery pivot points and food machinery. Bimetallic plain bearings utilize a steel back with copper alloy sintered layer composite structure, with extremely high load capacity, suitable for heavy-load low-speed and impact applications such as mill bearings and marine rudder bearings. Boundary-lubricated plain bearings utilize special surface texture treatments to maintain stable low-friction performance under boundary lubrication conditions, suitable for intermittent operation where full oil films cannot form. Engineering plastic plain bearings are integrally formed from high-performance engineering plastics, offering corrosion resistance, self-lubrication and light weight, suitable for chemical media environments and underwater applications.
NMT plain bearing metal substrates utilize high-strength steel, stainless steel or copper alloy materials, processed through precision machining and surface treatment to ensure substrate geometric accuracy and deformation resistance. Self-lubricating liners utilize PTFE, PEEK or other polymer composite materials, securely bonded to the metal substrate through specialized bonding or sintering processes, maintaining stable low friction coefficient and wear resistance under long-term friction. Bearing inner diameters undergo precision boring or reaming, with dimensional tolerances and surface roughness precisely controlled to ensure fit accuracy and operational stability with the journal.
Low friction and wear resistance are core performance indicators of plain bearings. NMT plain bearings optimize self-lubricating liner formulations and molding processes to control dry friction coefficient between 0.05 and 0.15, with further reduction under lubricated conditions. Solid lubricants (graphite, MoS₂, etc.) added to liner materials form transfer films during friction, further reducing friction and wear. Bearing wear rates are validated through rigorous bench testing, providing tens of thousands of hours of service life under rated loads.
Reasons for selecting NMT plain bearings:
High-strength metal substrate + high-performance self-lubricating liner composite structure for both load capacity and lubrication
PTFE/PEEK polymer composite liners with low friction, wear resistance and chemical corrosion resistance
No external lubrication or only initial lubrication required for maintenance-free long-life operation
Adaptable to boundary lubrication conditions, maintaining stable performance during intermittent operation
Precision-machined inner diameters with precise tolerance control for high fit accuracy
Solid lubricant additive technology forming transfer films during friction to further reduce wear
Options including bimetallic, composite liner and all-plastic structures for different operating conditions
Reliable operation under heavy-load low-speed, oscillating impact, moist and corrosive environments
These performance advantages establish NMT plain bearings as the core support components for heavy-load low-speed equipment, oscillating mechanisms, impact conditions, moist/corrosive environments and applications where frequent maintenance is impractical.
