NMT Agricultural Machinery Bearings – Full-Condition Precision Support for Tillage, Seeding & Harvesting – Systematic Response to Impact, Contamination & Corrosion

I. Agricultural Machinery Bearings: The "Farmers" Enduring in Soil, Dust and Moisture

In every stage of agricultural production - from spring sowing and planting to autumn harvesting and threshing - agricultural machinery is exposed to industrial equipment's unimaginable harsh conditions.

Agricultural machinery operates mainly in open fields, sandy soil, wet areas or water. Bearings have to withstand continuous vibration and high impact loads, adapting to various environments ranging from dry abrasion to damp corrosion. In a combine harvester, there are as many as over 80 sealed bearings - the failure of each set of bearings could mean the entire equipment's halt during the busy farming season.

Unlike general industrial bearings, agricultural bearings must possess four core characteristics: resistance to impact, strong sealing, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. A seeder may use over 100 bearings, and lubrication almost impossible to achieve. A farming machine operating continuously in high-humidity soil during spring must have bearings that remain reliable in the presence of soil and impacts. The bearing of the threshing drum of a combine harvester must withstand the continuous invasion of straw debris and soil.

II. Farming Machinery: Remaining Reliable in Soil and Impact

Farming machinery - plows, disc rakes, and tillers - is one of the types of agricultural machinery with the most severe working conditions.

Farming operations are generally concentrated in spring and autumn, and the high humidity during these two seasons is the true test for agricultural machinery. Hard soil and the continuously deepening farming depth impose higher requirements on the ultimate strength of mechanical parts; throughout the farming season, continuous vibration and high-intensity impacts run through.

Farming machinery usually adopts long shafts or large-span structures, often experiencing large deformation and large deflection during operation. At the same time, agricultural machinery is not precisely positioned during manufacturing and installation, with poor alignment between the shaft and the seat hole. This requires bearings to have excellent self-aligning performance to effectively ensure service life.

NMT's Solution

NMT's self-aligning roller bearings feature a spherical raceway design, automatically adjusting the contact position when the shaft bends, distributing the load evenly along the length of the roller, and eliminating edge stress concentration. The specially heat-treated bearing steel has a surface hardness of HRC62-65, with good toughness in the core, capable of withstanding 1.5 times the rated load impact.

For typical applications of plows and disc rakes - the bearing of the plow disc connection needs to withstand lateral load, overturning moment and radial load - NMT provides a bearing seat integration solution with flange, simplifying assembly and facilitating replacement. The bearing unit adopts a double-row angular contact ball bearing structure, with high load capacity and high side inclination stiffness.

III. Sowing Machinery: Operating Precisely in Fine Dust

The working environment of the sowing machine is equally harsh - fine dust particles, erosive crop residues and stone and clay containing substances, each sowing machine generally requires multiple bearings, with the maximum reaching over 100.

Under such a distribution of multiple bearings, re-lubrication is almost impossible. Therefore, sowing machine bearings must adopt maintenance-free design and long-lasting sealing - one injection of grease supports the entire operation season, even cross-season use.

The sowing disc's seed distributor bearings need to be equipped with metal dust-proof covers. The edge of the cover body closely adheres to the shaft, combined with the guiding structure of the bearing seat, preventing the dust raised during sowing from accumulating on the bearing surface.

NMT's Solution

NMT's four-point contact ball sealed bearings are the ideal choice for sowing machinery. Four-point contact ball bearings have high overturning rigidity, high load capacity and no clearance operation. The optimized multi-lip sealing structure prevents fine dust from entering while keeping the grease from leaking.

In response to the inability to lubricate the seeding machine, the NMT four-point contact ball bearing uses long-lasting grease pre-filling. At the time of production, it seals in an adequate amount of lubricant to support the entire operation season. The bearing has an oil storage slot structure, allowing for one-time grease injection for multi-season use, significantly reducing the frequency of field maintenance.

IV. Harvesting Machinery: Continuous Operation in Straw Debris

Harvesting machines such as combine harvesters, silage harvesters, and grass harvesters are the equipment with the largest number of bearings and the longest continuous operation time in agricultural machinery. On a single combine harvester, there are as many as 80+ areas using fully enclosed bearings.

The bearings of harvesting machinery face two threats: mechanical invasion by straw debris and soil, as well as chemical corrosion from crop residues and damp environments. The bearings of the threshing drum need to withstand continuous vibration and high impact loads, while also resisting the invasion of straw debris and soil.

During the harvesting season, the equipment typically operates continuously from morning to night, and any failure of a set of bearings can cause the entire harvester to stop. The harvesting window period is extremely limited - missing a few days could mean the loss of the entire crop season.

NMT's Response Plan

NMT's specialized agricultural machinery bearings use a "mushroom-shaped dust cover + double lip rubber seal" combined sealing scheme. The labyrinth gap is filled with anti-contamination grease, forming multiple layers of dust barriers. This multi-layer sealing system effectively blocks the invasion of straw debris, dust, and moisture.

For parts such as the cutter and threshing drum that are subjected to high impact and vibration, NMT provides bearing steel with carburizing and quenching treatment, with a surface hardness of HRC62-65, combined with reinforced engineering plastics or bronze cages, to enhance impact resistance.

In response to the corrosion from pesticides and fertilizers, NMT's bearing surfaces undergo phosphating + painting dual treatment, with a salt spray test lifespan of over 500 hours. For water field operation machinery, NMT uses waterproof grease and waterproof sealing structures to prevent water and mud from seeping in, ensuring stable operation in muddy environments.

V. Sealing Technology for Agricultural Machinery Bearings: Three Lines of Defense Against Pollutants

The sealing performance of agricultural machinery bearings is a key factor determining their service life.

In the field operation environment, pollutants threaten the bearings in various forms: soil, dust, straw debris, pesticide and fertilizer residues, and moisture. Once pollutants enter the bearing, they mix with the grease to form abrasive paste, accelerating the wear of the raceway and rolling elements. If the sealing piece cannot effectively block these pollutants, the lifespan of the bearing will be reduced from several thousand hours to several hundred hours.

NMT's Three-Layer Sealing System

The first layer: Mushroom-shaped dust cover. Using curved channels and centrifugal force, it physically blocks large particle pollutants - such as soil and straw debris - from invading. The labyrinth gap is filled with anti-contamination grease, forming a dynamic barrier.

The second layer: Double lip rubber seal. The main lip blocks fine dust and moisture, and the secondary lip prevents the leakage of grease. The sealing ring material is selected from oil-resistant and aging-resistant nitrile rubber (NBR) or chemically resistant fluororubber (FKM).

The third layer: Self-sealing dynamic barrier. Utilizing the centrifugal force of the bearing's rotation, the grease is flung to the sealing lip, forming a dynamic lubricating grease barrier - the faster the rotation, the stronger the sealing effect.

This three-layer sealing system significantly improves the sealing performance of NMT agricultural machinery bearings compared to ordinary bearings, extending the cleaning cycle to over 15 days.

VI. Selection Points for NMT Agricultural Machinery Bearings

The selection of agricultural machinery bearings should follow the logic of "working condition analysis → type matching → sealing selection → lubrication adaptation".

Load and impact judgment: For parts subjected to large deflection and shaft deformation, priority is given to self-aligning roller bearings; for parts subjected to heavy radial loads, choose cylindrical roller bearings; The parts subjected to combined loads and overturning moments should be equipped with four-point contact ball bearings.

Sealing selection: For scenarios with multiple bearings and maintenance-free requirements such as seeders, choose four-point contact ball bearings with multiple lip seals; for harvesting machinery and environments with straw dust such as harvesters, select a "maze + double lip seal" combination; for wet environments such as paddy field operations, choose a waterproof sealing structure.

Material selection: For normal working conditions, use carburized and quenched bearing steel (surface HRC 62-65, core high toughness); for corrosive environments, use stainless steel or surface coating treatment.

Lubrication selection: For parts that cannot be lubricated further, choose maintenance-free bearings filled with pre-filled long-life grease; for maintainable parts, choose extreme pressure lithium-based grease with strong adhesion and anti-pollution properties.

VII. Engineering Value of NMT Agricultural Machinery Bearings

The value of agricultural machinery is not determined by the purchase price of a single piece of equipment, but by the number of acres it can continuously and reliably complete operations within the precious agricultural time window.

During the spring tillage operations, NMT self-aligning roller bearings' high load-bearing capacity and self-aligning performance support the plow and disc harrow to operate continuously in hard soil. In the seed distributor of the seeder, NMT four-point contact ball bearings' zero-clearance operation and maintenance-free design ensure that every seed is precisely sown. In the combined harvesting in autumn, NMT multi-layer sealed bearings protect the threshing drum's every rotation in straw debris and dust. In the damp paddy fields, NMT waterproof sealed bearings maintain stable operation in muddy water.

In the selection of agricultural machinery bearings, NMT follows a clear engineering principle: sealing performance and impact resistance are the lifeline of agricultural machinery bearings. A reliable seal can extend the bearing's lifespan from hundreds of hours to thousands of hours; a maintenance-free design can save maintenance hours throughout the entire operation season.

Throughout every agricultural time window from spring tillage to autumn harvest, NMT agricultural machinery-specific bearings silently undertake the task of rotational support - allowing each piece of machinery to stand firm in the mud, sand, and impacts, and ensuring that every plowing, sowing, and harvesting does not stop due to bearing failure.
