Needle bearings can be classified into various types based on their structure and application scenarios:
Pressed Outer Ring Needle Bearings - Using thin-plate pressed formed outer rings with extremely low cross-sectional height, they are economical in price. The outer ring has the thinnest wall thickness, have a large bearing capacity, and are made of special alloy steel plates, having a high ultimate load capacity. They are mainly used in scenarios where the bearing housing inner hole cannot serve as the raceway and the structure is compact. There are two types: double-sided open type and single-sided closed type. Due to being fixed axially by pressing only, no stop ring, retaining ring, or bearing seat shoulder is required, achieving a low-cost design.
Solid Outer Ring Needle Bearings - Needle bearings with a machined solid outer ring, having higher rigidity and accuracy. They have the characteristics of a small radial cross-sectional size and high load-bearing capacity, suitable for radial installation-restricted scenarios in equipment such as machine tools and automotive gearboxes. Commonly used models are NA type and RNA type. The RNA type without an inner ring can directly use the shaft neck as the rolling surface, further saving space.
Roller and Cage Assembly - Composed of rollers and cages, without inner and outer rings, easy to install and use, occupying very little space yet having a large load-bearing capacity. The unique structure of the cage can precisely guide the rollers, and the good lubrication effect ensures high-speed use. Special convex shaping can alleviate stress concentration at the end of the roller caused by small installation errors and shaft deformation, extending service life.
Full-Load Needle Bearings - Without a cage, filled with rollers, accommodating more rolling elements under the same external dimensions, further enhancing the radial load-bearing capacity. Suitable for low-speed heavy-load scenarios.
Thrust Needle Bearings - Composed of thrust needles, cage assembly, and thrust washers. With a thin cross-sectional height, capable of withstanding large axial loads, stable rotation, and extremely compact installation space. Widely used in automotive gearboxes, torque management systems, air conditioning compressors, steering gears, etc.
Combined Needle Bearings - Composed of radial needle bearings and thrust bearings, capable of bearing both radial and axial loads. Suitable for industrial scenarios where radial space is limited and high axial load needs to be considered.
Screw-type Roller Needle Bearings - With thick outer rings, needle mother lines having convexities, screw column raceway surfaces hardened, having certain toughness, capable of withstanding impact loads. Mainly used in assembly lines and other occasions.

Selection points:
Space constraint priority: Radial installation space is extremely limited → prioritize needle roller bearings.

Structural type selection: Pursuing economy and extreme compactness → select pressed outer ring needle roller bearings; Pursuing high rigidity and high precision → select solid outer ring needle roller bearings; Pursuing extreme radial size → select needle roller bearings without inner rings or needle roller retaining components; Low-speed heavy load → select full-load needle roller bearings; Need to withstand both axial and radial loads → select combined needle roller bearings. High speed and low speed: High-speed scenarios → Select the type with retaining rings; Low-speed heavy-load scenarios → Select the fully-loaded type.
Installation points:
The extruded outer ring needle roller bearings are installed in the bearing housing with a press-fit connection.
When installing the needle roller bearings without inner rings, the hardness, machining accuracy, and surface quality of the shaft neck need to be comparable to the requirements of the bearing ring raceway.
During installation, avoid strong pressing; do not use a hammer to directly strike the bearings; do not transfer pressure through the rolling elements.
The needle roller bearings are sensitive to installation deviations and require precise alignment.
Usually, integrated seals are not included; careful lubrication is required.
