Suffix Explanation

N: Single row cylindrical roller bearing with double-ribbed inner ring and ribless outer ring. The outer ring can float axially to compensate thermal elongation of shaft and eliminate extra axial stress caused by temperature rise.

1012: Lightweight Series 10 narrow cross-section, low self-weight and rolling friction, suitable for medium-high speed precision spindle applications.

K: 1:12 tapered bore. Axial tightening of lock nut expands inner ring to adjust clearance and set preload flexibly during assembly.

TN: Standard polyamide cage, non-metallic structure, low operating noise for stable continuous operation.

SP: Precision accuracy grade. Strict control on dimensional tolerance, radial and axial runout compared to standard bearings to guarantee machining precision.

C1 clearance: Minimal radial internal clearance, designed for preloaded precision spindle units to suppress vibration under medium-high rotating speed.

Important reminder: The outer ring can move axially; this bearing cannot bear axial loads independently. It has to be matched with angular contact ball bearings for axial load support. Preload adjustment on tapered bore shall be implemented gradually; excessive tightening will lead to raceway overheating and damage. C1 minimal clearance is sensitive to preload and operating temperature; precise control during commissioning is required. No built-in seals; labyrinth seals or oil seals must be installed on housing to prevent ingress of coolant and dust. No pre-filled grease from factory, external independent lubrication system is required. Hammering bearing during assembly is forbidden to avoid indentation damage on raceways and rollers.

Alternative variants:

N1012 TN/SP (cylindrical bore polyamide cage, SP precision, fixed interference mounting)

N1012 KTN/SP (1:12 tapered bore, TN cage, SP grade with adjustable preload)

N1012 KTNHA/SP (1:12 tapered bore high-temperature polyamide cage for long-term continuous operation)

N1012 KTN/UP (UP ultra-precision grade for ultra-precision mirror machining equipment)

2 Structure & Operating Characteristics

N 1012 KTN/SP is a lightweight single row precision cylindrical roller bearing, SP accuracy class with C1 minimal radial clearance and TN polyamide cage. Its distinctive 1:12 tapered bore enables technicians to expand the inner ring by lock nut axial compression during assembly, flexibly adjust working clearance and apply proper preload to improve spindle radial rigidity. Series 10 narrow cross-section reduces dead weight and rolling friction for stable medium-high speed performance. The ribless outer ring enables free axial floating, automatically absorbing shaft elongation induced by temperature rise and removing internal stress inside bearing.

This bearing is open type without built-in seals and internal oil passages, compatible with external oil-air or circulating oil lubrication systems. No independent re-lubrication channel; lubricant is guided via external housing structure. The combination of C1 minimal clearance and tapered bore preload scheme is optimized for high-rigidity precision spindles to reduce rotary vibration and maintain stable machining accuracy.

Selection guide:

N1012 KTN/SP (1:12 tapered bore TN cage, SP precision, C1 clearance, precision spindles requiring on-site preload tuning)

N1012 TN/SP (straight cylindrical bore, fixed interference fit without clearance adjustment)

N1012 KTNHA/SP (taper bore heat-resistant cage for long-term high-temperature production)

N1012 KTN/UP (ultra-precision machining demanding extreme rotary rigidity)

Recommended matching bearing: 7012 SP grade precision angular contact ball bearing to form complete spindle assembly undertaking axial loads.

3 Core Performance Advantages

1. Light Series 10 narrow cross-section minimizes friction loss, stably reaching maximum 12000 r/min under oil-air lubrication for medium-high speed precision spindles.

2. TN polyamide non-metallic cage ensures smooth rotation and low noise, delivering reliable long-term operation under stable temperature environment.

3. Standard 1:12 tapered bore allows clearance and preload adjustment through lock nut, improving radial rigidity of spindle system.

4. SP precision standard combined with C1 minimal radial clearance tightly controls rotational runout, alleviates high-speed vibration and stabilizes workpiece surface quality.

5. Axially floatable outer ring compensates spindle thermal elongation, avoids stress concentration from temperature variation and slows bearing fatigue.

6. Constructed from premium bearing steel with stable contact condition between raceways and rollers, sufficient load rating balances carrying capacity and high-speed operation.

4 Typical Application Fields

4.1 Precision CNC lathe and sliding head machine spindles

Finishing spindles of medium precision CNC lathes requiring preload tuning during assembly, equipped with external oil-air or grease lubrication

4.2 Internal, cylindrical and tool grinder spindle units

Precision grinding machines working continuously with strict requirements on spindle rigidity, vibration, temperature rise and surface finish

4.3 High-speed engraving-milling machines and medium-sized machining center spindles

Light finishing cutting applications with obvious shaft thermal elongation, demanding floating radial support and adjustable preload

4.4 Other high-end precision medium-high speed rotary components

Power rotary parts requiring on-site preload adjustment, thermal elongation compensation and high radial rotary rigidity

5 Assembly Specifications & Usage Guidelines

5.1 Assembly Environment & Operation Standards

SP precision bearings shall be assembled in constant-temperature dust-free clean workshops. Thoroughly remove contaminants on shaft journals, housing bores and spacers. Preload tuning for 1:12 tapered bore bearing must be carried out slowly and step by step. Monitor spindle temperature and vibration during adjustment. Avoid large one-time tightening which may eliminate clearance and cause thermal seizure. After assembly, conduct gradual speed-up no-load running-in from low speed and monitor temperature and vibration in real time. Reliable sealing structure must be installed to prevent dust and coolant from contacting rolling surfaces.

5.2 Selection Guidance

Medium-high speed finishing, obvious shaft thermal elongation, preload adjustment required during assembly, high precision demand → N1012 KTN/SP

Medium-high speed operation, no preload adjustment needed, fixed straight bore assembly → N1012 TN/SP

Long continuous running, high operating temperature → select KTNHA high-temperature cage variant

Ultra-precision mirror machining, top-tier rotary accuracy and rigidity target → N1012 KTN/UP

Important notice: Floating outer ring cannot withstand axial loads; combination with precision angular contact ball bearings is mandatory.

5.3 Lubrication Maintenance Instruction

No lubricant pre-filled at factory. Oil-air lubrication is preferred to achieve maximum rotational speed; high-speed grease can be replenished periodically for medium-low speed conditions. Continuously monitor bearing temperature and avoid prolonged over-temperature operation. Inspect sealing integrity regularly to block hard contaminants entering raceways. Lubrication interruption will cause premature wear of rollers and cage.

5.4 Environmental Application Notes

Open construction without built-in seals; labyrinth seals or oil seals are compulsory. Raceways and rollers are sensitive to tiny hard particles; contaminants will increase vibration and rapidly degrade machining precision. Continuous shock loads should be avoided to prevent indentations on rolling contact surfaces. Make full use of outer ring floating characteristic to release thermal stress; do not forcibly restrict outer ring axial displacement.

6 Fault Identification

Common failure modes: continuously rising vibration at high speed, regular texture marks on machined workpieces, abnormal spindle temperature increase, periodic rotation noise, cage abrasion, roller edge scuffing and raceway fatigue spalling. For tapered bore bearings, excessive preload usually results in persistent overheating. Shut down equipment immediately once persistent abnormal noise or irreversible accuracy loss occurs. Bearings with permanent damage on raceways, rollers or cages cannot be repaired and need full replacement.
