NMT Low-Noise & Dust-Proof Deep Groove Ball Bearings for Logistics & Warehouse Equipment – Conveyors, Stacker Cranes, AGVs & Sorting Lines – Dust-Resistant, Impact-Resistant & Low-Noise, Maintenance-Free Options, In Stock & Customizable
I. Core Faults of Logistics Storage Equipment Bearings
The core equipment of modern logistics storage centers - conveyors, stackers, AGVs, and cross-belt sorters - are responsible for 24-hour continuous cargo handling tasks. These devices are constantly operating under harsh conditions of high dust, frequent start-stop, and continuous impact loads, and the bearings are subjected to tests far beyond those of ordinary industrial equipment.
Common failure modes:
Dust and debris intrusion - In storage environments, there are contaminants such as paper scraps, packaging fragments, and dust. When traditional bearing seals are inadequate, dust enters the raceway and mixes with the lubricating grease to form a grinding paste, accelerating the wear of the rolling elements and the raceway, resulting in sluggish operation or even failure to rotate. Dust and moisture from the conveyed materials entering the bearing interior can cause the lubricating grease to be contaminated and fail, and the rolling elements of the bearing to wear and get stuck.
Frequent start-stop impact loads – Automated sorting lines and AGV carts require frequent starting, stopping, and reversing. Ordinary bearing cages are prone to deformation or cracking under repeated impacts, and the rolling elements may shift, resulting in the disassembly of the bearing.
Fatigue failure due to continuous high-load operation - The conveyors and stackers bear the weight of goods for long periods, with the bearings subjected to continuous radial loads. The stable operation of the stackers at high speeds (≥120m/min) and during rapid shuttling places extremely high demands on the rigidity of the bearings. Any unplanned downtime could affect the entire supply chain.
Excessive noise – Modern intelligent warehousing centers have strict noise limits, especially during nighttime operation hours. Ordinary bearings generate loud noise, which not only affects the working environment but also may mask other abnormal sounds from the equipment, delaying the troubleshooting process.
II. Optimized Materials and Heat Treatment - Impact Resistance, Fatigue Resistance, Long Service Life
✅ High-carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15) treated by vacuum degassing – NMT uses high-quality bearing steel and employs the vacuum degassing process to significantly reduce the content of non-metallic inclusions in the steel, eliminating the source of fatigue crack initiation at the very beginning. Combined with controlled atmosphere quenching and low-temperature tempering, the surface hardness is stabilized at HRC 60-64, while the core maintains good toughness.
✅ Carburizing hardening treatment (optional) - For parts of the stacker crane that undergo frequent impacts, such as the walking wheels and heavy-duty conveyors, NMT provides carburized hardening bearing steel. The raceway surface forms a high-hardness anti-fatigue layer (HRC 60-64), while the core remains resilient (HRC 30-40). This combination of hardness and toughness ensures it can withstand impact loads without cracking.
✅ Reinforced Spacers (Iron / Brass) – For applications where AGVs and sorters frequently start and stop, NMT offers standard iron or brass spacers. These spacers have a much higher impact resistance than ordinary nylon spacers, effectively preventing bearing disassembly caused by spacer deformation or fracture.
III. Structure of Deep Groove Ball Bearings - Stable Support for High-Speed Operation and Composite Loads
The conveyor drum, AGV drive wheel, stacker crane traveling wheel and other components simultaneously bear high-speed rotation + continuous radial load + bidirectional axial thrust. The bearings required to have low friction, high rigidity and excellent high-speed performance.
Advantages of the NMT deep groove ball bearing structure:
Deep groove raceway design - capable of bearing both radial and bidirectional axial loads simultaneously, with a compact structure, suitable for limited installation space of storage equipment. Low friction coefficient, suitable for continuous operation at several thousand revolutions per minute.
Precise grade clearance (C3 / C4) - Select the internal clearance precisely according to different working conditions. For continuous operation of the conveyor, the C3 standard clearance is selected; for stackers with high-speed lifting and large temperature variations, the C4 large clearance is chosen to compensate for thermal expansion and prevent overheating from causing jamming.
Low-noise design - Through the combination of high-precision steel balls (G5 grade) and precisely ground raceways, as well as the optimization of the retaining structure, the operating noise of the bearing is controlled at a low level, meeting the requirements for a quiet environment in intelligent warehousing centers.
IV. Three sealing configurations - Protect against dust levels and maintenance requirements respectively
▷ Standard dust-proof type (ZZ): Double-sided metal dust cover
Suitable for general parts of conveyors where there is less dust and particle protection is the main concern. The metal shielding effectively blocks coarse particles such as paper scraps and packaging debris. It has good heat resistance and does not affect high-speed operation. The cost is economical and it is suitable for large-scale use.
▷ Enhanced dust-proof type (2RS): Double-sided contact rubber seal (NBR)
Suitable for high dust environments, such as the unpacking area of cardboard boxes, unpackaged goods conveying lines, etc. The NBR (nitrile rubber) sealing lip closely adheres to the inner ring, effectively preventing dust and fine particles from entering, and also preventing lubricant leakage. Compared to metal dust-proof covers, the dust-proof effect of the rubber seal is more thorough.
▷ Low-resistance long-life type (VV): Double-sided non-contact rubber seal
Suitable for AGV, high-speed sorting lines and other equipment that are sensitive to running resistance. The non-contact sealing does not generate additional friction resistance, has low heat generation and low energy consumption. At the same time, it has basic dust-proof and splash-proof functions, and is suitable for continuous operation for 24 hours and scenarios where maintenance is inconvenient.
V. Spot Reserve + Non-standard Customization - Emergency Repair Guarantee for Automated Warehouses
Common models (6200, 6300, 6800 series) are always in stock - covering over 80% of the general bearing requirements for logistics and warehousing equipment. Conveyor drum bearings that fail suddenly are dispatched on the same day, minimizing the downtime of automated warehouses to the greatest extent.
Customizable items: Special inner and outer diameters/widths, customized clearances (C2/C3/C4/C5), reinforced cages (iron/copper), special sealing materials, low-noise specialized optimization.
Quickly produce prototypes based on old bearings or drawings – Small batch urgent orders can be delivered promptly. The prices are comparable to those of imported brands (SKF, FAG, NSK, NTN), significantly reducing the procurement costs.
VI. Factory Simulation Test - Ensuring Stable Operation of the Logistics Site
All products undergo four specialized tests before leaving the factory:
Dust environment intrusion test - Simulate the dust environment in storage areas, test the sealing effectiveness and wear amount, and verify the dust-proof performance.
Frequent start-stop impact test - Simulates the frequent start-stop conditions of AGVs and sorters to evaluate the strength and impact resistance of the bearings.
Continuous operation life test - Operating continuously under rated load for thousands of hours to verify fatigue life and the stability of the grease.
Noise and vibration detection - Conduct individual testing of operating noise and vibration values to ensure compliance with low noise requirements.
All non-conforming products must be scrapped. The bearings of the same batch are highly consistent in terms of size, clearance and noise value, which facilitates the unified management and planned replacement of spare parts in large logistics centers.
VII. Lifecycle Cost Optimization - Reducing Downtime and Operational Losses
A one-hour unplanned downtime in an automated warehouse affects the efficiency of the entire supply chain - delayed orders, customer complaints, and soaring operational costs. Frequent replacement of bearings not only increases maintenance costs but also leads to decreased equipment accuracy and safety hazards.
The hidden costs of low-priced ordinary bearings:
Dust intrusion requires replacement within 6 to 12 months. Frequent shutdowns affect the efficiency of product delivery.
The breakage of the cage causes the bearing to disintegrate, which may damage the shaft and the bearing housing. The repair cost will increase significantly.
Excessive noise levels violate the environmental protection requirements for storage facilities and restrict night-time operations.
After the grease becomes contaminated and fails, the frequency of manual grease replenishment increases, and the maintenance workload rises.
The NMT specialized bearings for logistics and warehousing can ensure a stable service life of 24 to 36 months on conveyors, stackers, and AGVs:
The frequency of replacements has decreased by over 60% – the number of annual downtime incidents has significantly reduced, ensuring the efficiency of warehouse outbound operations.
Dust-proof sealing for long-term protection – Grease remains clean, maintenance intervals are extended, and the workload for manual maintenance is reduced.
Strengthen the impact resistance of the cage – Frequent start-stop operations no longer worry about cage breakage, improving the reliability of equipment operation.
Low noise operation - Meets the silent requirements of intelligent warehousing centers, allowing for night-time operations without restrictions and enhancing operational flexibility.
The lifespan of the supporting components (axles, bearing housings, reducers) has been extended – the overall overhaul cycle of the machine has been prolonged, and the comprehensive holding cost has been significantly reduced.
For large logistics warehousing centers, e-commerce distribution centers and automated storage warehouses, the overall holding cost of NMT bearings is much lower than the repeated replacement cost of cheaper bearings - what is saved is not the price difference of the bearings, but the operational certainty of the continuous and efficient operation of the automated warehouses.
