NMT Heavy-Duty Spherical Roller Bearings for Cement & Steel Metallurgy Equipment – Vertical Mills, Rotary Kilns, Rolling Mills & Vibrating Screens – Impact-Resistant, High-Temperature & Dust-Proof, In Stock & Customizable
I. Core Faults of Bearings in Cement and Steel Metallurgical Equipment
Cement plants and steel metallurgical production lines are typical continuous operation heavy industry scenarios. From crushing of raw materials, grinding of raw slurry, calcination of clinker to packaging of finished cement, from blast furnaces for iron smelting, continuous casting to hot rolling and cold rolling, the equipment is constantly operating under extreme conditions of high impact, high dust, high temperature radiation, and continuous heavy load.
Common failure modes:
Extreme impact loads lead to early fatigue - The grinding rollers of cement vertical mills, the rotors of crushers, and the rolls of rolling mills all bear radial and axial combined loads of several hundred tons. Ordinary bearings, under frequent impacts, develop indentations and spalling on their raceways, and the cages deform and break. On average, they need to be replaced within 6 to 12 months.
High concentration dust intrusion - During the entire process of the cement production line, from raw material crushing to clinker cooling, a large amount of cement dust and slag particles are generated. The dust enters the bearing and mixes with the lubricating grease to form grinding paste, accelerating the wear of the rolling elements and raceways, resulting in increased clearance and excessive vibration.
High-temperature radiation leads to lubrication failure – the surface temperature of the rotary kiln cylinder can reach 200 to 400℃. The bearing seats at the kiln head and kiln tail are constantly subjected to heat radiation conduction. Ordinary lubricating grease rapidly carbonizes and deteriorates at high temperatures, causing the bearings to lose oil and expand due to heat, eventually resulting in jamming or shaft seizure.
Vibration conditions accelerate bearing damage - Vibrating screens and crushers are subjected to centrifugal forces and centrifugal accelerations generated by the high-speed rotation of eccentric blocks during operation, as well as feed impact loads. Under such high-frequency vibrations and alternating loads, the cages and raceways of ordinary bearings are prone to developing fatigue cracks.
The lifespan bottleneck of continuous heavy-load operation - Cement and steel equipment operate non-stop for 24 hours, with an annual operation rate of over 90%. Bearings remain in a state of continuous heavy load for a long time, resulting in a sharp reduction in fatigue lifespan. Unplanned shutdowns directly lead to the paralysis of the entire production line, causing huge losses.
II. High-purity Alloy Steel + Innovative Heat Treatment - Dual Guarantees for Load-bearing and Toughness
✅ Special purification treatment of high-purity alloy steel - NMT uses high-purity alloy steel that has undergone special purification treatment. Through the vacuum degassing process, the content of non-metallic inclusions in the steel is significantly reduced, eliminating the source of fatigue crack initiation from the very beginning. The improvement in material purity directly translates into the fatigue resistance of the bearing under heavy load and impact.
✅ Innovative Gradient Heat Treatment Process - NMT has developed an innovative gradient heat treatment process that creates a precisely controlled hardness gradient from the surface to the core within the bearing. This "outer hard, inner flexible" material property enables it to withstand both high contact stress and impact loads simultaneously, with a fatigue life that is over 60% higher than that of traditional processes. The surface hardness of the raceway remains stable at HRC 60-64, while the core maintains good toughness to absorb impact.
✅ Optimize internal structure design - NMT optimizes the internal structure of the bearings, enabling them to have higher load-bearing capacity, thereby extending the service life and reliability of the bearings. The spherical raceway and drum-shaped roller design of the self-aligning roller bearings allow them to have automatic alignment capabilities, which can compensate for the angle errors caused by shaft deflection and installation deviations.
✅ Independently developed anti-corrosion surface treatment technology – For the high humidity and chemical corrosion environments of cement and steel production lines, NMT has applied its independently developed anti-corrosion surface treatment technology on the bearing surfaces. Even in humid or corrosive environments, it can maintain long-term stable performance.
III. Structure of the Centering Roller Bearing - Core Advantages in Dealing with Imbalanced Loads and Vibration
The main shaft of the cement grinding mill, the rotating kiln bearing wheel, the roller neck of the rolling mill, and the vibration exciter of the vibrating screen, among other parts, simultaneously bear heavy radial loads + bidirectional axial thrust + axial deflection deformation + high-frequency vibration. Ordinary bearings are unable to handle these complex working conditions simultaneously.
Advantages of the NMT self-aligning roller bearing structure:
Spherical raceway automatic self-aligning – The spherical raceways of the inner and outer rings and the design of the drum-shaped rollers enable the bearing to have an automatic self-aligning capability of ±1.5° to ±3°. Even if the installation base has coaxiality deviation or the shaft undergoes deflection deformation during operation, the bearing still maintains a uniform contact stress distribution, avoiding local overload.
Symmetrical roller layout - The rollers are arranged symmetrically, capable of bearing both radial and bidirectional axial loads, suitable for the force characteristics of equipment such as rolling mills and vertical mills that frequently change direction.
Precise grade clearance (C3 / C4) - Precisely select the internal clearance according to different temperatures and rotational speeds. Vibrating screens and crushers use C4 large clearance to compensate for the expansion caused by high-frequency vibration and temperature rise; rotary kilns also use large clearance in high-temperature conditions to prevent thermal coking.
Optimize the design of the cage - For vibration conditions, NMT uses high-strength brass or steel cages. The impact resistance of these cages is much better than that of ordinary nylon cages, effectively preventing the cage from deforming or breaking under intense vibration.
IV. Specialized Lubrication Solution - Addressing the Dual Challenges of High Temperature and Dust
The lubrication of cement and steel equipment is a key factor determining the lifespan of bearings. Ordinary lubricating grease fails rapidly in high-temperature and dusty environments. NMT offers a graded lubrication solution:
▷ High-temperature condition: PLATINUM NMT high-temperature non-melting lubricating grease
It is made by using a specific molecular structure base oil and special thickening technology. It does not melt or drip at high temperatures. It has excellent shear stability and will not caramelize or leak even after long-term use. It has strong impact resistance. It is recommended for use in high-temperature and heavy-load parts such as the bearing of rotary kiln support wheels and the bearing of vertical mill grinding rollers.
▷ Heavy-duty impact condition: Extreme pressure lithium-based lubricating grease
For equipment such as crushers and vibrating screens that are subjected to frequent impact loads, NMT recommends adding extreme pressure additives to lithium-based lubricating grease. This forms a high-strength load-bearing film on the raceway surface, effectively resisting the damage caused by peak impact forces to the rolling contact surface.
▷ Universal type with wide temperature range: Polyurea-based lubricating grease
Suitable for bearing lubrication of various general equipment in cement plants and steel mills. The operating temperature range covers -20℃ to 180℃. It has excellent water resistance and dust resistance, reducing the frequency of grease replacement.
V. Three sealing configurations - Protection against dust levels and temperatures respectively
▷ Standard dust-proof type (ZZ / 2Z): Double-sided metal dust cover
Suitable for the auxiliary equipment parts with relatively light dust. The metal shielding effectively blocks coarse dust particles, has good heat resistance, and does not affect high-speed operation. Suitable for auxiliary equipment such as motors, fans, and conveyors.
▷ Heavy-duty dust-proof type (2RS): Double-sided contact rubber seal (NBR / FKM)
Suitable for high dust environments such as ball mills, crushers, vibrating screens, etc. The NBR (nitrile rubber) sealing lip closely adheres to the inner ring, effectively preventing cement dust and slag particles from entering. FKM (fluorine rubber) is suitable for higher temperatures and chemical corrosive environments.
High-temperature maze sealed type (with heat insulation cover)
Designed specifically for high-temperature radiation areas such as rotary kilns, kiln heads and kiln tails. The non-contact labyrinth seal is combined with a metal heat insulation cover. It not only blocks dust but also withstands high-temperature heat radiation, preventing the sealing components from aging and failing due to high temperatures.
VI. Spot reserves + Non-standard customization - Emergency repair guarantee for heavy industry production lines
Common heavy industry bearing models (22200, 22300, 23000, 23100 series) are always in stock - Covering over 80% of the offset roller bearing demands of cement plants and steel mills. Emergency repairs are dispatched on the same day, minimizing unplanned downtime to the greatest extent.
Customizable items: Special inner and outer diameters/widths, Customized clearances (C3/C4/C5), High-temperature FKM seals, Special cage materials (brass/steel), Special pre-filling of lubricating grease, Anti-corrosion surface treatment.
Quickly produce prototypes based on old bearings or drawings – Small batch urgent orders can be delivered promptly. The prices are comparable to those of imported brands (SKF, FAG, NSK, TIMKEN), significantly reducing the procurement costs.
VII. Factory Simulation Test - Ensuring Stable Operation in Industrial Sites
All products undergo four specialized tests before leaving the factory:
High-frequency vibration impact fatigue test - Simulates the high-frequency vibration conditions of vibrating screens and crushers to verify the strength of the cage and the fatigue resistance of the raceways.
Rotary test in high-concentration dust environment - Simulates the environment of cement and slag dust, to test the sealing effectiveness and wear rate.
High-temperature continuous rotation life test - Operates continuously in a constant temperature box ranging from 150 to 200 degrees Celsius, to verify the stability of the lubricating grease and its dimensional stability.
Dimension accuracy and rotational torque detection - Perform individual inspections of inner diameter, outer diameter, width, radial clearance and starting torque to ensure consistency.
All non-conforming products must be scrapped. The bearings of the same batch are highly consistent in terms of size, clearance and torque, which facilitates the unified management and planned replacement of spare parts by large cement groups and steel enterprises.
VIII. Life Cycle Cost Optimization - Reducing Unplanned Shutdowns and Maintenance Losses
For cement plants and steel mills, an unplanned shutdown of one hour incurs losses amounting to several hundred thousand yuan. Frequent replacement of bearings not only increases maintenance costs but also leads to reduced equipment reliability and potential safety hazards.
The hidden costs of low-priced ordinary bearings:
The impact load requires replacement within 6 to 12 months. Frequent production halts affect production capacity and delivery.
The dust intrusion accelerates wear and tear. The vibration screen bearings even fail within 3 to 6 months.
At high temperatures, the lubricating grease undergoes carbonization and coking, making it difficult to clean and prolonging the maintenance cycle.
The damage to the bearings may also cause damage to the shaft, bearing housing and reducer, resulting in a doubling of the repair cost.
The NMT special self-aligning roller bearings for cement and steel have a stable service life of 24 to 36 months on vertical mills, rotary kilns, rolling mills, and vibrating screens:
The frequency of replacements has decreased by over 60% - the number of unplanned annual shutdowns has significantly reduced, ensuring production capacity.
Self-aligning structure compensates for installation deviations – reduces installation accuracy requirements and minimizes early failures caused by improper installation.
Optimize the anti-vibration and anti-breakage performance of the bearings – The bearings do not break under vibration conditions, enhancing the reliability of equipment operation.
Sealed long-lasting dust-proof performance - Grease remains clean, maintenance intervals are extended, and the workload for manual maintenance is reduced.
The lifespan of the supporting components (axles, bearing housings, reducers) has been extended – the overall overhaul cycle of the machine has been prolonged, and the comprehensive holding cost has been significantly reduced.
For large cement groups, steel conglomerates and mining enterprises, the overall holding cost of NMT bearings is much lower than the repeated replacement cost of cheaper bearings - what is saved is not the difference in bearing prices, but the certainty of continuous operation of the entire production line.
