I. Core Faults of Construction Machinery Bearings

Construction machinery is a type of equipment that operates under heavy loads, with low rotational speeds and high safety margins. Excavators, loaders, cranes, bulldozers, etc. work continuously in harsh environments such as mud, dust, rain, and snow. Their technical conditions inevitably deteriorate faster than those of other machinery, and there will be varying degrees of loosening, wear, rusting, and scaling between components. From the boom joint to the traveling mechanism, from the slewing platform to the hub reduction gearbox, bearings are the key link determining the reliability of the equipment. 

Common failure modes: 

Impact loads cause track indentations and spalling - When excavator buckets dig, loader buckets carry materials, or impact hammers perform crushing operations, the bearings are subjected to instantaneous impacts far exceeding the rated load. The surface of the track develops indentations, and gradually expands into spalling under continuous alternating stress. Construction machinery bearings typically encounter three harsh wear conditions: a combination of high load and impact, a combination of high load and high speed, and a combination of high load and low speed. 

Dust and sand intrusion – Dust and sand are flying everywhere at the construction site. The dust mixes with the lubricating grease inside the bearings to form grinding paste, accelerating the wear of the rolling elements and raceways. Contamination, improper installation and insufficient lubrication are the three main causes leading to premature failure of construction machinery bearings, accounting for over 80% of on-site failures of excavators and loaders. 

Lubrication failure - The shafts and shaft holes of the walking mechanism of the engineering machinery do not have a completely sealed fit. The lubricating oil gradually leaks out during operation. The working environment of the excavator is harsh, with many bearings exposed to high loads, intense vibration and shock, dirt, dust, and variable weather conditions. When lubrication is insufficient, the bearings dry grind, the temperature rises sharply, and eventually they burn out.

II. High-purity alloy steel + Deep heat treatment - The core guarantee for resistance to impact and fatigue

✅ Vacuum degassing high-purity alloy steel - The high-purity bearing steel produced by NMT through vacuum degassing process significantly reduces the content of non-metallic inclusions in the steel. In heavy-load impact conditions of construction machinery bearings, inclusions are the main source of fatigue cracks. The improvement in material purity directly translates into the fatigue life of the bearings under harsh conditions. 

✅ Deep quenching and precise tempering treatment - NMT uses precisely controlled deep quenching and precise tempering processes to create a hardness gradient from the surface to the core inside the bearing. The surface hardness of the raceway is uniformly and stably maintained at HRC 60-64, providing extremely strong anti-spalling ability; the core maintains sufficient toughness, capable of absorbing instantaneous impact loads. This "outer hardness, inner flexibility" material characteristic significantly improves the fatigue life of the bearing in high-impact working conditions such as excavation, loading, and crushing. 

✅ Crown-shaped roller shaping process - NMT adopts a precise crown-shaped shaping design for the roller's profile, effectively alleviating the edge stress concentration at both ends of the roller, and preventing problems such as track pitting, wear, and jamming during heavy-load operation. Combined with ultra-precision grinding processing technology, the surface roughness of the track reaches mirror-like level, further reducing friction and temperature rise. 

✅ Carbon Nitrogen Coating Surface Treatment (Optional) – For extreme abrasive environments, NMT offers the carbon nitrogen coating surface treatment process. This process forms a high-hardness wear-resistant layer on the raceway surface while maintaining the impact toughness of the core. This treatment enables the bearing to maintain excellent anti-wear performance even in extreme contaminated environments such as sand and mud. 

III. Part-based Bearing Solution - Precisely Tailored for the Four Core Systems of Construction Machinery

▸ Traveling Mechanism and Hub Bearings 

The walking reducer of the excavator, the drive axle of the loader, and the final transmission of the bulldozer, etc., bear the dual loads of the equipment's own weight and the bumps on the working surface, and are also directly threatened by mud and sewage. NMT offers two solutions: conical roller bearings and self-aligning roller bearings. Conical roller bearings can simultaneously bear radial and axial loads and are commonly used in the hubs and gearboxes of construction machinery. Self-aligning roller bearings have an automatic self-aligning function and can compensate for shaft deflection and installation deviations, and are widely used in mining equipment and heavy transmission systems. 

Rotary platform and rotary bearing 

The rotating platforms of excavators and cranes are the connection hubs between the upper and lower parts of the entire machine, bearing the combined effects of overturning moment, axial load and radial load. NMT provides cross-roller slewing bearings and four-point contact ball slewing bearings, with a high-load-bearing design. The raceways are treated with special surface treatment to resist micro-damage under low-speed heavy-load conditions. The sealing structure adopts double-sided contact seals or labyrinth-type combined seals, effectively preventing sand, mud and other substances from entering the raceways. 

Lifting arm and working device joint 

The hinge points of the excavator's arm, bucket arm, bucket, and loader lifting arm, etc., are subjected to huge radial and axial combined loads, and there are frequent oscillating movements. NMT provides heavy-duty ball bearings and radial ball bearings. The integral thickening structure design of the inner and outer rings can effectively resist instantaneous impact loads and prevent structural deformation caused by long-term heavy pressure. The precise sealing structure combined with the optimized friction pair design can effectively block the intrusion of dust and impurities into the sliding gap, significantly reducing abrasive wear and loss. 

Vibration and compaction equipment bearings 

Vibration rollers and vibrating screens are subjected to extreme working conditions during operation, including high excitation forces, high vibration frequencies, and continuous operation. Ordinary bearings are prone to premature failure due to overheating and burning. NMT offers special self-aligning roller bearings for vibration machinery. With a reinforced cage design and optimized internal clearance (C4), these bearings can still operate stably under high-frequency vibration and alternating loads. 

IV. Triple-sealing Solution - Resisting Sand, Dust and Water Intrusion

▷ Standard Dustproof Type (ZZ / 2Z): Double-sided Metal Dustproof Covers 

Suitable for auxiliary equipment parts with relatively light dust. The metal shielding effectively blocks coarse dust particles, has good heat resistance, and does not affect high-speed operation. Suitable for adjusting components and control systems in the driver's cabin, etc., in environments with mild pollution. 

▷ Heavy-duty dust-proof type (2RS): Double-sided contact rubber seal (NBR / FKM) 

Suitable for walking mechanisms, hubs, boom joints, etc. in high dust and high sand environment. The NBR sealing lip closely adheres to the inner ring, effectively preventing sand and dust from entering. FKM (fluorine rubber) is suitable for higher temperature and chemical corrosion environments. The sealing structure adopts a composite design of high-strength metal frame and high-quality rubber material, capable of withstanding high pressure and instantaneous impact force. 

▷ Heavy-duty maze sealed type (with stainless steel cover) 

Designed specifically for parts such as slewing bearings and traveling drive wheels that are constantly immersed in mud and water. The non-contact labyrinth seal is combined with a stainless steel cover. The rotating centrifugal force is utilized to expel possible mud and water from entering, and in combination with the drainage channel design, it prevents pollutants from accumulating in the sealing chamber. 

V. Special Lubrication Solutions - Addressing Heavy Load Impact and Outdoor Temperature Variations

Engineering machinery bearings are widely distributed, and the lubrication conditions vary significantly. NMT offers a graded lubrication solution: 

▷ Travel mechanism and hub bearing: Extreme pressure heavy-duty lithium-based lubricating grease 

Suitable for a temperature range of -20℃ to 120℃. It contains extreme pressure and anti-wear additives, forming a high-strength load-bearing film under high contact stress. It has excellent water repellency and dust resistance, and is suitable for heavy-duty low-speed parts such as the walking reducer of excavators and the drive axle of loaders. 

▷ Swivel supports and joint bearings: High viscosity extreme pressure lubricating grease 

Suitable for low-speed heavy-load and large swing-angle conditions, with high base oil viscosity and thick oil film thickness, it still provides reliable lubrication protection under overturning moment and impact load. Adding solid lubricants (molybdenum disulfide or graphite), it offers additional protection under boundary lubrication conditions. 

▷ Vibration equipment bearings: Anti-fretting wear lubricating grease 

Designed specifically for vibratory rollers and vibrating screens, it features excellent resistance to micro-damage wear and shear stability. It does not lose its properties or harden under high-frequency vibration, thereby extending the service life of the bearings in vibration conditions.

VII. Factory Simulation Test - Ensuring Stable Operation at the Construction Site

All products undergo four specialized tests before leaving the factory: 

Impact load fatigue life test - Simulates instantaneous impact conditions such as excavation, loading, and crushing, to verify the bearing's ability to resist impact and spalling. 

Sealing test in sandy and dusty environment – Simulates the sandy and dusty environment at the construction site to test the sealing effectiveness and wear amount. 

High-frequency vibration retaining ring strength test - Simulate the high-frequency vibration conditions of vibrating rollers and vibrating screens to verify the retaining ring's ability to resist fatigue fractures. 

Dimension accuracy and rotational torque detection - Perform individual inspections of inner diameter, outer diameter, width, radial clearance and starting torque to ensure consistency. 

All non-conforming products must be scrapped. The bearings of the same batch are highly consistent in terms of size, clearance and torque, which facilitates the unified management and planned replacement of spare parts by the construction fleet.
