NMT Low-Noise High-Speed Bearings for Packaging Machinery – Fillers, Sealers, Labelers & Conveyors – High-Speed, Low-Noise, Dust-Proof & Impact-Resistant, In Stock & Customizable
I. Core Faults of Packaging Machinery Bearings
Packaging machinery is a typical type of equipment that operates at high speed, with frequent start-stop cycles, high precision, and strict cleanliness requirements. Equipment such as filling machines, sealing machines, labeling machines, and conveyors are constantly exposed to complex environments with high levels of dust, paper and debris, glue residue, and moisture erosion. Once the bearings fail, it directly leads to issues such as feeding deviation, unstable sealing, and skewed labeling, and in severe cases, can cause the entire production line to stop.
Common failure modes:
Dust and paper debris contamination – Common dust, debris, glue and moisture in the packaging workshop. After the seal fails, these impurities enter the bearing and mix with the lubricating grease to form grinding paste, accelerating the wear of the raceway. The feeding mechanism bearing is subjected to frequent start-stop impacts for a long time, resulting in fatigue wear of the raceway and rolling elements.
High-speed start-stop impact – The packaging feeding mechanism operates at a fast pace and frequently needs to repeatedly push, hold, and position the materials. The frequent start-stop operations generate impact loads that cause the ordinary bearing cage to deform and the rolling elements to misalign, resulting in a significant reduction in the bearing's lifespan.
Insufficient lubrication and burning out – Once the bearing of the feeding roller runs out of lubricating oil or the oil film breaks, the internal balls and raceways come into direct contact, causing the temperature to rise rapidly. Eventually, it results in blackening, seizing, and jamming. Especially for high-speed feeding mechanisms, the temperature increase of the bearings is more significant when the lubrication is inadequate.
Installation accuracy is poor - when replacing the bearings on-site, only the ability to install them is considered, while the concentricity of the bearing seat, the axial runout at the end of the shaft, and the press-fitting method are ignored. After the bearings are knocked off-center or skewed during press-fitting, the internal clearance is damaged, causing the equipment to repeatedly overheat and eventually break down.
Excessive noise – Modern packaging workshops have strict noise limits. The operation of ordinary bearings generates a lot of noise, which not only affects the working environment but also may mask other abnormal sounds of the equipment.
II. High-carbon chromium bearing steel + Special heat treatment - The cornerstone of high-speed impact resistance
✅ High-carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15/SUJ2) vacuum degassing - NMT uses vacuum degassing for high-quality bearing steel, significantly reducing the content of non-metallic inclusions. Under high-speed start-stop impact conditions, inclusions are the main source of fatigue cracks. The purity of the material directly translates into the fatigue resistance life of the bearing in packaging conditions.
✅ Special heat treatment - NMT employs precisely controlled quenching and tempering processes, resulting in a uniformly stable surface hardness of HRC 60-64, with extremely strong anti-spalling capabilities; the core maintains sufficient toughness, capable of absorbing the impact loads from frequent start-stop operations.
✅ Precise clearance classification (C2/C3) – For high-speed operation, choose C2 small clearance to ensure rigidity; for high-temperature sealing equipment, choose C3 large clearance to compensate for thermal expansion. Precise clearance selection effectively prevents thermal jamming.
✅ Low-noise design - Through the combination of high-precision steel balls (G5 grade) and precisely ground raceways, as well as the optimization of the retaining structure, the operating noise of the bearing is controlled at a low level, meeting the silent requirements of the packaging workshop.
III. Equipment-specific bearing solutions - Tailored for each packaging machine
▸ Filling machine bearings
The main shaft and cam mechanism of the filling machine are subjected to high-frequency reciprocating motion and liquid splashing. NMT offers stainless steel deep groove ball bearings (2RS sealed type), which are corrosion-resistant and resistant to flushing, and are pre-lubricated in the factory for maintenance-free operation. They are suitable for applications such as beverage filling, cosmetics filling, and pharmaceutical filling.
Sealing machine and heat sealing bearings
The sealing mechanism bearings are exposed to high temperatures (up to 180℃) and glue residues for a long time. NMT provides deep groove ball bearings that compensate for thermal expansion with C3 clearance, and high-temperature lubricating grease ensures stable operation at high temperatures. FKM seals are resistant to high temperatures and chemicals.
Labeling machine bearings
The labeling machine requires high precision and low vibration. The labeling deviation directly affects the appearance quality of the products. NMT provides precision low-noise deep groove ball bearings with ultra-precise machined raceways (Ra ≤ 0.1μm), and the low-vibration design ensures consistent labeling accuracy.
Transporter and conveyor belt bearings
The packaging conveyor operates continuously for a long time and is exposed to dust, debris and humid environments. NMT offers bearing units with housing and deep groove ball bearings (ZZ/2RS), with multiple seals to prevent dust from entering. The conveyor is pre-lubricated in the factory and requires no maintenance.
Bag-making and packaging machine bearings
In bag forming equipment, linear sliding bearings and films need to ensure a long service life in dusty, powder-coated and humid environments. NMT offers self-lubricating sliding bearings and sealed deep groove ball bearings, which are suitable for continuous operation in harsh environments.
IV. Three sealing configurations - for different contamination levels
▷ Standard dust-proof type (ZZ): Double-sided metal dust-proof cover
Blocks coarse dust particles and paper debris. Excellent heat resistance, does not affect high-speed operation. Suitable for dust-prone areas such as conveyors and transmission systems.
▷ Heavy-duty dust and moisture-proof type (2RS): Double-sided contact rubber seal (NBR/FKM)
Prevents fine dust, paper debris, glue residue and moisture. NBR is resistant to oil; FKM is resistant to high temperatures and chemicals. The sealing lip closely adheres to the inner ring, effectively preventing contaminants from entering the bearing interior. Suitable for high-risk areas such as filling machines, sealing machines, and labeling machines.
▷ Low-noise high-speed type (VV): Double-sided non-contact rubber sealing
Suitable for packaging equipment that operates at high speed and is sensitive to noise. The non-contact seal does not generate additional friction resistance - with low heat generation and low energy consumption. Basic dust and splash protection. Suitable for high-speed labeling machines and high-speed filling machines.
V. Special Lubrication Solution - Low Noise and Long Life
▸ Low-noise high-speed grease - Suitable for high-speed operating equipment such as filling machines and labeling machines (up to 15,000 rpm). The low-viscosity base oil combined with anti-friction additives reduces friction noise and offers excellent high-speed stability. Temperature range: -30℃ to 150℃.
High-temperature resistant sealing grease - Suitable for heat-sealing mechanisms (up to 180℃). Composed of high-viscosity base oil and anti-oxidant additives, it does not carbonize or deteriorate at high temperatures. Temperature range: -20℃ to 180℃.
Dust and moisture-resistant lubricating grease - Suitable for conveyors and bag-making machines. High structural stability, preventing the breakdown and hardening of the lubricating grease due to dust and moisture.
Food-grade lubricant (NSF H1 - optional) - Suitable for food and pharmaceutical packaging machinery, with safety for occasional food contact.
VI. Spot reserves + Non-standard customization - Emergency repair guarantee for packaging lines
Commonly used packaging bearings (6200, 6300, 6800 series, sleeve bearings) have regular inventory - covering more than 80% of the replacement needs for packaging machinery. Emergency repairs are dispatched on the same day, minimizing the downtime of the production line to the greatest extent.
Customizable items - Special inner and outer diameters/widths, customized clearances (C2/C3), special cage materials (steel/copper/aluminum alloy), special sealing materials (FKM/silicone), stainless steel (SUS304/316), special grease filling (low noise/high temperature/food grade).
Quick prototyping with old bearings or drawings – rapid delivery for small-batch urgent orders. Affordable replacement of imported brands (SKF, FAG, NSK, NTN), significantly reducing procurement costs.
VII. Factory Simulation Test - Ensuring Stable Operation at Packaging Site
All products undergo four specialized tests before leaving the factory:
High-speed start-stop shock test - Simulates the frequent start-stop conditions of the packaging machine to verify the bearing's resistance to shock and fatigue.
Dust/fiber contamination intrusion test - Simulates the dust and paper debris environment in a packaging workshop, to test the sealing effectiveness and wear rate
High-temperature continuous operation test - Simulating the high-temperature operating conditions of the heat sealing mechanism (up to 180℃), to verify the stability of the lubricating grease and the dimensional stability
Noise and vibration detection - Conduct individual testing of operating noise and vibration values to ensure compliance with low noise requirements.
All non-conforming products shall be scrapped. The bearings of the same batch are highly consistent in terms of size, clearance and noise value, which is conducive to the unified management and planned replacement of spare parts by the packaging factory.
VIII. Lifecycle Cost Optimization - Reducing Downtime and Packaging Quality Losses
A one-hour unplanned downtime of the packaging line results in the loss of the entire production line's capacity and order delivery. Frequent replacement of bearings not only increases maintenance costs but also causes fluctuations in packaging quality - loose sealing, skewed labeling, and inaccurate filling.
The hidden costs of low-priced ordinary bearings:
Dust or paper debris contamination requires replacement within 6 to 12 months, which is significantly shorter than the equipment's designed lifespan.
Insufficient lubrication can cause the bearing to burn out, which may also damage the shaft and the bearing housing. The maintenance cost will increase significantly.
Improper installation caused the bearing to become unevenly worn. Once the new bearing was installed, it immediately began to operate with faults.
Excessive noise violates the environmental protection requirements of the workshop and affects the working environment.
The vibration of the bearings leads to a decline in packaging accuracy and a decrease in product qualification rate.
The NMT packaging-specific bearings have a stable service life of 24 to 36 months when used in filling machines, sealing machines, labeling machines, and conveyors:
The frequency of replacements has decreased by over 60% – the number of unplanned annual downtime has significantly reduced, ensuring the efficiency of the production line.
Multi-layer sealing for long-term dust prevention - Prevents dust, paper debris, and moisture from entering, keeps the grease clean, and extends maintenance intervals.
Low-noise design meets the quietness requirements – workshop noise is within the standard, and the working environment has been improved.
High precision and low vibration ensure packaging quality - secure sealing, accurate labeling, consistent filling, and improved product qualification rate
The lifespan of the supporting components (axles, bearing housings, transmission parts) has been extended – the overall overhaul cycle of the machine has been prolonged, and the comprehensive holding cost has been significantly reduced.
For food packaging factories, pharmaceutical packaging enterprises, daily chemical production lines and logistics and express delivery packaging centers, the overall holding cost of NMT bearings is much lower than the repeated replacement cost of cheap bearings - what is saved is not the price difference of the bearings, but the operational certainty of the packaging line operating continuously at high efficiency and the stable quality of the products.
