NMT Long-Life Bearings for Industrial Fans & Ventilation Equipment – Centrifugal Fans, Axial Fans, Roof Ventilators & Cooling Tower Fans – Dust-Resistant, High-Temperature & Long-Life, In Stock & Customizable
I. Core Faults of Bearings in Industrial Fans and Ventilation Equipment
Industrial fans are crucial ventilation equipment in industries such as factories, mines, power plants, chemical plants, and metallurgy, operating continuously for 24 hours. If the bearings of centrifugal fans, axial flow fans, roof fans, cooling tower fans, etc. fail, it directly leads to production line shutdown, complete failure of workshop ventilation, and overheating and damage of equipment.
Common failure modes:
Dust intrusion and abrasive wear - Industrial environments are filled with dust, particles, and fibrous impurities. Fans are commonly used in workshops, outdoors, and other environments with a lot of dust. Ordinary dust-proof bearings are unable to effectively block fine dust. Dust enters the bearing through the sealing gap and mixes with the lubricating grease to form grinding paste. Abrasive particles continuously cut into the raceway and the surface of the rolling elements, causing an increase in clearance and intensified vibration.
High temperature causes the failure of lubricating grease - during the operation of the fan, the temperature of the bearing can reach above 80 to 120℃. Ordinary lubricating grease accelerates oxidation, volatilization and carbonization at high temperatures, losing its lubrication performance. The bearing becomes hot and expands due to lack of oil, eventually getting stuck or burned.
Water and corrosive gas erosion – The cooling tower fans and ventilation equipment in chemical plants are constantly exposed to high humidity and corrosive gases. Water seeping into the bearings causes rust and emulsification of the lubricating grease. Corrosive gases accelerate the oxidation of metal surfaces and cause pitting on the raceways.
Continuous operation-induced fatigue failure – Industrial fans typically operate non-stop for 24 hours. Bearings are subjected to continuous alternating stresses over a long period, resulting in gradual fatigue spalling on the raceway surface. Poor-quality bearings may require replacement within 1-2 years. Bearing failure of the fan is the primary cause of motor malfunction.
Improper installation and maintenance – Inconsistent concentricity during the installation of the fan bearings, as well as incorrect pre-tightening force, led to uneven wear of the bearings and abnormal temperature rise. Insufficient or excessive lubrication, as well as incorrect type of lubricating grease, can also accelerate the damage of the bearings.
II. High-carbon chromium bearing steel + Special heat treatment – The cornerstone of long service life
✅ High-carbon chromium bearing steel (GCr15/SUJ2) vacuum degassing – NMT uses vacuum degassing for high-quality bearing steel, significantly reducing the content of non-metallic inclusions. In the high-speed rotation and continuous alternating stress conditions of the fan bearing, inclusions are the main source of fatigue cracks. The purity of the material directly translates into the fatigue resistance life of the bearing under the fan operating conditions.
✅ Special heat treatment process - NMT employs precisely controlled quenching and tempering processes, resulting in a uniformly stable surface hardness of HRC 60-64, with extremely strong resistance to abrasive wear and spalling; the core maintains sufficient toughness, capable of absorbing the vibrations and shock loads during the operation of the fan.
✅ Precision clearance classification (C2/C3/C4) - The clearance requirements vary depending on the operating conditions of different fans. For high-speed axial flow fans, a C2 small clearance is selected to ensure rotational accuracy and rigidity; for high-temperature centrifugal fans, a C3 or C4 large clearance is chosen to compensate for the thermal expansion of the inner and outer rings and prevent overheating from causing jamming.
✅ Ultra-precision machined raceway – The raceway has been ultra-precisely ground to a mirror finish (Ra ≤ 0.1 μm), significantly reducing the friction coefficient at the rolling contact surface, minimizing heat generation, and extending the service life of the bearing in continuous operation conditions.
III. Equipment Bearing Solutions - Compatible with Each Type of Ventilation Equipment
▸ Centrifugal Fan Bearings
The centrifugal fan has a high rotational speed (up to 3000 rpm or more) and bears a large radial load. The axial thrust generated by the impeller requires the bearings to have the ability to bear both directions of axial load. NMT offers two solutions: deep groove ball bearings and angular contact ball bearings. Deep groove ball bearings are suitable for small and medium-sized centrifugal fans with a focus on radial loads; angular contact ball bearings are suitable for high-pressure centrifugal fans that bear large axial thrust. The C3 clearance accommodates temperature rise and ensures stable operation in high-temperature environments.
Axial flow fan bearings
The axial thrust generated by the axial flow fan blades is significant, and they also bear radial and axial loads. NMT offers deep groove ball bearings (2RS sealed type), with double-sided rubber seals effectively preventing dust and moisture from entering. The C2/C3 clearance is optional and suitable for different speed and temperature requirements. The double ball bearings are widely used in large-diameter fans operating at 5000 revolutions per minute.
Roof fan and smoke exhaust fan bearings
The roof fans are exposed to the elements, enduring the tests of wind, sand, and temperature variations. The smoke exhaust fans need to operate continuously under high temperatures (up to 280°C) during a fire. NMT provides deep groove ball bearings that can withstand high temperatures, FKM (fluororubber) seals that are resistant to high temperatures, aging, and high-temperature lubricants to ensure no carbonization or loss at extreme temperatures. The C4 large clearance compensates for the thermal expansion at high temperatures.
Cooling tower fan bearings
The cooling tower fan operates in a high-humidity, water vapor and chemical agent environment. NMT provides stainless steel deep groove ball bearings (SUS304/316), with an all-stainless steel structure that resists water vapor and chemical corrosion. The multiple sealing structure prevents moisture and humidity from entering, and prevents the lubricating oil from emulsifying and deteriorating.
High-temperature industrial fan bearings
The bearings of high-temperature fans in industries such as metallurgy, glass, and ceramics operate continuously in an environment of 150 to 200 degrees Celsius. NMT offers deep groove ball bearings made of high-temperature alloy steel, which are paired with high-temperature lubricating grease (applicable temperature range: -40°C to 260°C). The C4 large clearance compensates for thermal expansion. The steel cage is resistant to high temperatures and deformation.
IV. Three sealing configurations - for different dust and humidity levels
▷ Standard dust-proof type (ZZ): Double-sided metal dust cover
The metal dust-proof cover mates with the ring by interference fit. It physically isolates large particles of impurities and does not come into contact with the inner ring. The friction is extremely small, making it suitable for high-speed scenarios. It can effectively block large particles of foreign matter and is suitable for medium and low-speed, dry or light dust environments. It is applicable to relatively clean indoor fans and air conditioning ventilation equipment.
▷ Heavy-duty dust and moisture-proof type (2RS): Double-sided contact rubber seal (NBR/FKM)
The rubber contact sealing ring's lip closely adheres to the rotating surface of the inner ring, resulting in better sealing performance. It can effectively lock in lubricating grease and prevent fine dust and moisture from entering. NBR (nitrile rubber) is suitable for general industrial environments; FKM (fluorine rubber) is suitable for high-temperature and chemically corrosive environments. It is more sensitive to the protection of tiny particles. It is suitable for mine fans with high dust content, ventilation equipment in cement plants, and exhaust fans in casting workshops.
▷ Heavy-duty maze sealed type (with stainless steel cover)
Designed for cooling tower fans, ventilation equipment in chemical plants, etc., in high-humidity and corrosive environments. Non-contact labyrinth seal combined with stainless steel cover. Utilizing rotational centrifugal force, it can dislodge possible moisture and particles. Multiple curved channels form a non-contact sealing barrier. Suitable for high-humidity, moisture-laden, and corrosive gas environments.
V. Specialized Lubrication Scheme - Adapted to Wide Temperature Range and Continuous Operation
Industrial fans are widely distributed and have significant variations in operating conditions. NMT offers a graded lubrication solution:
▷ Standard operating condition: High-performance composite lithium-based lubricating grease
Suitable for general industrial fans operating within the temperature range of -20℃ to 120℃. Excellent oxidation resistance and water resistance, suitable for 24-hour continuous operation. Meeting the lubrication requirements for most factory ventilation equipment.
▷ High-temperature operating condition: High-temperature resistant synthetic lubricating grease
This high-temperature fan is suitable for industries such as metallurgy, glass, and ceramics (with a maximum temperature of 260℃). It uses synthetic base oil combined with high-temperature thickening agent, which does not melt, does not drip, and does not carbonize at high temperatures. The lifespan of the high-temperature bearings is three times that of ordinary lubricating grease.
▷ Low-temperature condition: Low-temperature synthetic lubricating grease
Suitable for outdoor fans and refrigeration equipment in northern winter (down to -60℃). Excellent low-temperature starting performance ensures normal operation of bearings under extremely cold conditions.
▷ Food-grade lubricating grease (NSF H1 - optional) - Suitable for ventilation equipment in food processing plants, ensuring safety in occasional food contact.
VI. Spot Reserve + Non-standard Customization - Emergency Repair Guarantee for Ventilation Systems
Common fan bearings (6200, 6300, 6800 series) are always in stock - covering over 80% of the replacement needs for industrial fans. Ventilation system emergencies are dispatched on the same day, minimizing the downtime of production lines to the greatest extent.
Customizable items - Special inner and outer diameters/widths, customized clearances (C2/C3/C4), special sealing materials (FKM/silicone), stainless steel (SUS304/316), special grease fillings (high/low temperature/food grade), special cage materials (steel/copper/engineering plastic).
Quick prototyping with old bearings or drawings – rapid delivery for small-batch urgent orders. Affordable replacement of imported brands (SKF, FAG, NSK, NTN), significantly reducing procurement costs.
VII. Factory Simulation Test - Ensuring Stable Operation of Ventilation System in Field Conditions
All products undergo four specialized tests before leaving the factory:
Dust environment intrusion test - Simulates industrial dust environment to test the effectiveness of sealing and the amount of wear.
High-temperature continuous operation test - Continuously operated in a constant temperature box ranging from 120 to 200℃, to verify the stability of the lubricating grease and the dimensional stability
High humidity environment sealing test - Simulates the high humidity environment of cooling towers and chemical plants to test the sealing and waterproof performance
Noise and vibration detection - Conduct individual testing of the operating noise and vibration values to ensure that the low-noise requirements of the fans are met.
All non-conforming products must be scrapped. The bearings of the same batch are highly consistent in terms of size, clearance and noise value, which facilitates the unified management and planned replacement of spare parts by the factory.
VIII. Life Cycle Cost Optimization - Reducing Losses from Shutdowns and Ventilation System Failures
For every hour of unplanned downtime of an industrial fan, not only is the ventilation function lost, but it may also lead to production line shutdowns, overheating damage to equipment, and deterioration of product quality. Frequent replacement of bearings not only increases maintenance costs but also reduces the reliability of the ventilation system.
The hidden costs of low-priced ordinary bearings:
Dust intrusion requires replacement within 1 to 2 years, which is much shorter than the designed lifespan of the fan.
The deterioration of lubricating grease at high temperatures can cause the bearing to burn out, potentially damaging the fan shaft and housing. This will significantly increase the maintenance costs.
Improper installation led to uneven wear of the bearings and abnormal temperature rise.
Bearings failure is the primary cause of motor malfunctions, and replacing the motor due to this issue incurs higher costs.
The malfunction of the ventilation system led to an increase in the temperature of the workshop, which affected the working environment of the workers and the heat dissipation of the equipment.
The special bearings for NMT fans can ensure a stable service life of up to 40,000 to 50,000 hours in centrifugal fans, axial flow fans, and cooling tower fans.
The frequency of replacements has decreased by over 60% - the number of unplanned annual downtime has significantly reduced, ensuring the reliability of the ventilation system.
Multi-layer sealing for long-term dust and moisture protection - Prevents dust and moisture from entering, keeps the grease clean, and extends maintenance intervals.
High-temperature lubricating grease does not carbonize nor does it seep out – The bearing operates stably under high-temperature conditions, eliminating the risk of burning out.
Precise clearance prevents thermal jamming – C3/C4 large clearance compensates for thermal expansion, ensuring smooth operation at high temperatures
The lifespan of the supporting components (such as the fan shaft, casing, and motor) has been extended – the overall overhaul cycle of the equipment has been prolonged, and the overall holding cost has been significantly reduced.
For the ventilation systems of industrial enterprises such as steel mills, cement plants, chemical plants, power plants, and mines, the overall holding cost of NMT bearings is much lower than the repeated replacement cost of cheap bearings - what is saved is not the difference in bearing prices, but the operational certainty of the long-term stable operation of the ventilation system and the continuous operation of the production line.
