Suffix Explanation
N: Single row cylindrical roller bearing. Two ribs on inner ring guide rollers; ribless outer ring floats axially to absorb thermal expansion. Only radial loads can be supported, axial loads are not recommended.
1014: Series 10 narrow-section spindle bearing. Compact structure reduces friction, prioritizing high rotational speed, widely used for radial support of high-speed finishing spindles.
PHA: Solid machined metal cage. Wider operating temperature range and superior shock resistance compared with polyamide cages, ideal for applications with sustained high temperature and transient shocks.
SP: Precision accuracy grade. Dimensional tolerance, radial and axial runout are tighter than standard bearings to sustain stable precision at high rotational speeds.
C1 clearance: Minimal radial internal clearance, matched for lightly preloaded high-speed spindle systems to suppress vibration and improve workpiece surface finish.
Important reminder: This straight bore N-type single row cylindrical roller bearing achieves preload via interference fit; preload cannot be adjusted on-site after assembly. No W33 circumferential lubrication groove on outer ring, cannot connect to continuous automatic lubrication circuits, only suitable for intermittent production with one-time grease filling during mounting. N-type floating outer ring bears pure radial loads and cannot withstand axial forces; spindle axial positioning must be undertaken by paired angular contact ball bearings. Open bearing without built-in seals; labyrinth seals or oil seals must be installed on housings to block coolant and dust ingress. No pre-filled grease upon delivery; lubricant should be filled during assembly. Never strike inner or outer ring directly during assembly to prevent indentations on raceways and rollers.
Alternative variants:

N1014 PHA/UP (UP ultra-precision grade for ultra-high precision mirror high-speed grinding spindles)
2 Structure & Operating Characteristics
N 1014 PHA/SP is an SP-grade precision single row cylindrical roller bearing with C1 minimal radial clearance, PHA solid machined metal cage, straight cylindrical bore and outer ring without lubrication groove. Compact single-row roller layout lowers friction loss and delivers excellent limiting speed. The N design with ribless outer ring allows free axial sliding to automatically compensate spindle thermal expansion and avoid extra axial stress induced by temperature rise.
It adopts straight bore structure. Preload is generated through interference fit between shaft journal and inner bore, which remains fixed once assembly is finished without later adjustment possibility. The machined metal cage possesses high mechanical strength, superior heat resistance and shock resistance, covering wider temperature range than plastic cages and adapting to long-term high-temperature continuous operation. Without outer ring W33 channel, uninterrupted re-lubrication during running is impossible, only applicable to intermittent processing equipment with scheduled downtime for grease replenishment. Combined C1 minimal clearance and precision manufacturing tolerances suppress rotary vibration at high speeds and guarantee surface quality in high-speed finishing.
Selection guide:
N1014 PHA/SP (straight bore, machined metal cage, no W33 groove, SP C1 clearance, fixed preload, high temperature & shock resistant, intermittent processing with one-time greasing)
N1014 PHA/SPW33 (straight bore, metal cage with lubrication groove, fixed preload plus continuous on-line lubrication for mass high-speed production)
N1014 KPHA/SP (1:12 tapered bore, polyamide cage, no groove, on-site adjustable preload)
N1014 TN/SP (straight bore without groove, standard polyamide cage, fixed preload for intermittent high-speed operation at normal temperature)
N1014 TN/SPW33 (straight bore with W33 groove, polyamide cage, fixed preload for automatic continuous lubrication system)
N1014 PHA/UP (ultra-precision grade for high-speed grinding requiring ultimate rotational accuracy)
Recommended matching bearing: Paired 7014 SP angular contact ball bearings to bear all axial loads and realize bidirectional spindle axial positioning.
3 Core Performance Advantages
1. N-type single-row narrow-section roller design reduces friction and achieves high limiting speed, suitable for various high-speed finishing processes.
2. Straight cylindrical bore with interference fit ensures stable preload, perfect for mass-production equipment with fixed processes requiring infrequent spindle rigidity adjustment.
3. PHA solid machined metal cage delivers high mechanical strength, outstanding resistance to high temperature and transient impact loads, resisting deformation under prolonged high-temperature operation.
4. SP precision standard combined with C1 minimal radial clearance delivers tight control over rotational runout, mitigates high-speed vibration and stabilizes machining accuracy and surface finish.
5. Axially floating outer ring automatically compensates spindle thermal elongation and prevents abnormal additional stress inside the bearing.
6. Bearing steel construction ensures stable contact performance of raceways and rollers with consistent performance during prolonged high-speed operation.

5 Assembly Specifications & Usage Guidelines
5.1 Assembly Environment & Operation Standards
SP precision bearings should be assembled in constant-temperature dust-free clean workshops. Thoroughly remove contaminants on shaft journals, housing bores and spacer contact surfaces. Preload level of straight bore bearings is determined by shaft interference; fit tolerance must be precisely defined in drawings in advance. Preload cannot be modified after assembly. No lubrication groove on outer ring; grease can only be filled during assembly, formulate regular shutdown maintenance plan for supplementary greasing. Reliable sealing must be installed on machine housings to prevent coolant and dust from reaching rolling surfaces. This N-type bearing cannot withstand axial loads, paired angular contact bearings are mandatory for spindle axial positioning.
5.2 Selection Guidance
Fixed machining process, no need for on-site preload adjustment, elevated operating temperature, shock loads, intermittent high-speed production, no continuous on-line oil supply → N1014 PHA/SP
Continuous mass high-speed production, automatic lubrication system, fixed preload, high temperature environment → N1014 PHA/SPW33
On-site preload adjustment required, medium & high temperature working condition → N1014 KPHA/SP
Fixed process, intermittent high-speed processing under normal temperature, cost priority → N1014 TN/SP
Fixed process, normal temperature equipped with automatic continuous lubrication system → N1014 TN/SPW33
Ultimate rotational accuracy, ultra-high speed mirror grinding → N1014 PHA/UP
Important notice: No outer ring lubrication groove for this model, lubricant cannot be replenished while equipment is running, periodic maintenance schedule is mandatory. N structure is designed purely for radial loads; continuous accidental axial force triggers edge stress concentration, roller scuffing and premature fatigue failure.
5.3 Lubrication Maintenance Instruction
No lubricant pre-filled at factory. Oil-air lubrication is recommended to achieve maximum permissible rotational speed; grease one-time filling is widely adopted for intermittent working conditions. Lacking outer ring oil groove, grease cannot be supplemented into bearing without machine shutdown. Set maintenance cycle according to operating conditions, shut down periodically to disassemble end caps for re-greasing; prevent premature wear caused by long-term insufficient lubrication. Continuously monitor bearing temperature; stop operation immediately once abnormal temperature rise occurs to inspect preload and lubrication status.
5.4 Environmental Application Notes
Open structure without built-in seals; labyrinth seals or oil seals on housings are compulsory. Raceways and rollers are extremely sensitive to tiny hard particles. Contamination amplifies vibration and rapidly deteriorates high-speed machining accuracy. Although metal cage possesses better heat resistance than polyamide cage, long-term over-temperature operation shall be avoided. Severe shock loads should be avoided to prevent permanent indentations on rolling contact surfaces.
6 Fault Identification
Common failure modes: steadily rising vibration during high-speed cutting, regular texture patterns on machined workpieces, abnormal continuous spindle temperature increase, periodic rotational noise, cage abrasion & deformation, roller end scuffing and raceway fatigue spalling. Typical failures for straight bore bearings: improper fit tolerance leads to over-preloading with persistent overheating or insufficient preload causing accuracy degradation; premature wear due to aged and exhausted grease without online replenishment; uneven roller abrasion induced by unexpected axial loads. Shut down equipment immediately upon persistent abnormal noise or irreversible accuracy degradation. Bearings with permanent damage to raceways, rollers or cage cannot be repaired and need complete replacement.
