Thrust roller bearings use rollers as rolling elements to bear ultra-large pure axial loads, divided into two mainstream types: cylindrical thrust roller bearings and tapered thrust roller bearings. Consisting of shaft washer, housing washer and roller cage assembly, they adapt to one-way axial jacking pressure and two-way opposite axial force conditions, bearing almost no radial force. Compared with thrust ball bearings, thrust roller bearings adopt line-contact pressure bearing with over 3 times higher axial load capacity and prominent advantages in high-pressure extrusion resistance and impact compression resistance. Versus tapered roller bearings and cylindrical roller bearings, the force-bearing direction is dedicated, with the entire structure optimized for axial load bearing to maximize axial rigidity without structural strength waste from radial force. The main disadvantage is extremely weak radial positioning capacity, requiring matching radial positioning bearings for installation, along with low limiting speed, only suitable for low-speed high-pressure clamping and pressure-bearing working conditions.

Large hydraulic forging machines, injection molding machine clamping mechanisms and metallurgical screwdown devices operate under long-term static high pressure and frequent reciprocating jacking. Inferior thrust roller bearings suffer poor flatness on roller end faces and insufficient quenching hardness of raceway planes, leading to roller crushing and raceway concave deformation under high pressure. Thin cage structures tear and fracture under alternating axial force, increasing bearing planar clearance, resulting in insufficient mold clamping force of presses, deviation of mill roll gap accuracy and dimensional error of pressed workpieces. Two cage options are available: high-strength stamped steel cages for conventional industrial pressure holding conditions and solid brass cages for harsh working conditions with high temperature and alternating impact pressure. Tapered thrust roller models adopt tapered roller structures for further enhanced axial load capacity, suitable for axial limit of ultra-large tonnage presses and vertical mill main shafts. Single-way bearings are used for one-side jacking limit, while two-way thrust bearings fit bidirectional opposite force structures with pre-assembled structure for direct installation on cylinder flanges.
